Optimized Performance of Polyisocyanurate Foam in Steel Faced Double Belt Lamination Building Panels

The dynamics and conditions involved in the production of polyisocyanurate foam filled steel faced panels by the double belt lamination process work in concert with the PIR formulation to create distinct foam features which influence foam and panel properties and quality. The new family of Dow VORATHERMTM polyisocyanurate foam systems provides an excellent combination of physical properties, processability, and the ability to meet global flammability standards. Nevertheless, an understanding of process factors and the proper control of process variables is essential to fully exploit the potential of these foam solutions. One of the key characteristics studied and discussed in this work is the cell orientation of the foam resulting from the lamination process conditions and the impact of this factor on the properties of the finished panel.
