In this study, a model of a mechanical system with discontinuities is investigated. This study involves computational and experimental analysis in the parametric space to explore the stability of periodic response. An experimental test-stand was developed consisting of four equidistant masses attached to a thin strip clamped at one end. This experimental system also consists of two adjustable rigid stops on one of the masses. Further, a physics-based, 4 degrees of freedom, piecewise ordinary dierential equation model of the test-stand is developed. The aects of altering input parameters such as excitation frequency, stiness ratio, damping ratio, and the location of the stops are analyzed through this model. Initial experiments are done to validate the nonlinear phenomenon observed in computational results.
