RAYTHEON SITE ENERGY SURVEY TOOL

Energy surveys are an important part of an energy program. There are many levels of surveys available through consultants and energy service providers. Raytheon needed an internal method to consistently review the energy consumption practices throughout the company. The Raytheon Energy Survey Tool has been developed to provide the methodology to gather data, recognize and catalog energy savings opportunities, and determine an initial rank ordering of the opportunities. The tool is in a spreadsheet format for ease of use. The survey team consists of three energy champions from different Raytheon locations. The local site provides a contact person, full time for the duration of the survey, and local process experts during the tour of their specific area. The survey team works through the “Visualize”, “Commit” and “Prioritize” steps of a six sigma process. The tool is then delivered to the site for follow through and application. Once the survey team has left the site, the document can be used by the local staff to track changes and add opportunities. Some of the benefits of the tool are: ease of documentation, consistent methodology, top level project ranking, and sample savings calculations. The opportunity capture process is enhanced by using a survey team from other Raytheon sites. The survey team reviews infrastructure and process/production (Plug Load) operations from an energy perspective. The survey tool has been used at several sites very successfully. The opportunities documented for reduction in energy consumption has far exceeded the cost of the survey. The tool is evaluated and improved following each survey. The Enterprise Energy Team is responsible for maintaining the tool.
