HeLa, a human cervical carcinoma cell line, stably expressing green fluorescent protein (GFP) was used as a model system in vitro. Morphological and physicochemical characteristics of siRNA/ chitosan complexes at varying in N/P ratios were studied. Successful siRNA delivery was observed in stable Hela cells. The ability of chitosan to transfer functionally active siRNA into cell culture is dependent on N/P ratios, molecular weight and salt forms of chitosan.
