Quantum Dots as tool for the long-term imaging of particulate drug delivery systems

The optical properties and the long-term stability of fluorescently labeled microparticles were investigated using quantum dots. The microparticles showed a distinct dependence of their fluorescence based on the quantum dot amount and the encapsulation method. Despite the loss of fluorescence during preparation, once encapsulated their fluorescence was stable over several months in aqueous environment.
