The aim of this study was to investigate the contributions of electromigration and electroosmosis to the iontophoretic transport of granisetron across porcine skin in vitro and also to determine the effect of experimental parameters on delivery kinetics. The steady state transdermal flux of granisetron after iontophoresis at 0.3 mA/cm~2 for 7 hours, in the absence of competing ions, 175.9 ± 37.13 μg/cm~2/h, would be sufficient to deliver therapeutic amounts of drug from a reasonably-sized patch.
