Highly Soluble Drug in Microgranules Prepared with Crosslinked Pectin and Embeded in a Mucoadhesive Polymer Matrix

Different types of microgranules containing SCh as a model very soluble drug and crosslinked pectin as a carrier were prepared and characterized. Formulations releasing the drug over 6 h, the time appropriate for buccal administration, were selected and introduced into gel-forming mucoadhesive polymers. Unexpectedly, this resulted in a significant increase in the release rate of SCh from the formulation and the nature of this process is currently investigated.
