Reclaiming Cooling Tower Blow Down A Case Study at Sasol Synfuels

Preparations for new clean fuel specifications at Sasol Synfuels’ (hereafter the Company) 160 000 bbl/day CTL plant at Secunda in South Africa increased the demand for water utilities. New production units require high quality feed water. Recovery of 12 M?/day of cooling tower blow down, using existing technologies, in stead of using additional raw water led to a saving of approximately 6% on the total raw water intake.
