Coupled Analysis of the Behavior of Seabed Subjected to Sea Wave with Different Formulation of Geomaterials

This study aims to investigate the proper mathematical formulation of soil materials for the analysis of the transient response behavior of seabed subjected to sea wave loading. Since soil is multi-phase material, the exact formulation of the mechanical behavior of soil is usually quite complicated and requires a large amount of calculation effort. Although soil materials generally are three-phase materials which consist of solid, fluid and gas phases, i.e., soil particles, pore water, and air, they are simplified in practical analyses, and modeled as single phase or binaryphase materials. Also the analytical calculation is often conducted in static or quasi-dynamic conditions even for the dynamic problems. We have to select the appropriate procedure of modeling and calculation of soil materials taking account of the mechanical condition and target feature of the problems to be analyzed. Four variations of the formulations are selected in this study,: u-w-p, u-p, u- and w-p models. And the applicability of the models is comparatively examined for the coupled response analysis of the seabed to sea wave loading.
