摘要

Previously developed numerical models in Part I were employed to analyze the contact and temperature distribution of the flexible metal to metal face seal (FMMFS) rings that were used in a scoring failure test. The analysis showed that discontinuous con contact tact patterns in the contact region of the seal rings could reduce seal temperatures and increase scoring resistance of the seal pairs. These discontinuous contact patterns, which are created by irregular surface profiles, can decrease high temperature regions by reducing superposition effects of temperatures and thermal conduction resistance, and finally delay scoring failures. In addition, a new scoring failure criterion considering nominal and local temperatures was developed, which matches well the likelihood of scoring failures at high an andd low speed in the tests.
