Linearized model of active magnetic bearings (AMBs) is normally used for determining parameters of decentralized PID controllers, which are used in industrial applications. Linearized model parameters, i.e. current gain and position stiffness vary with operating point variation, also due to magnetically nonlinear behavior of AMBs. These variations are determined by the finite element computation. The obtained results show considerable variations of the discussed parameters. This information is indispensable to estimate the load capacity and to evaluate the robustness of the control algorithm in the entire operating range.
