This paper concerns a comparison of three short-stroke 6-DOF planar actuator topologies. The actuator consists of stationary coils and a carrier with a Halbach permanent magnet array. The carrier is magnetically levitated and moves in the xy-plane. The three topologies are compared and the power dissipation and force and torque ripples are minimized.
