Generic sizing criteria, when used to size coalescing separators, can often result in oversizedor undersized vessels. While the former is costly from an initial investment and maintenanceperspective, the latter is extremely costly as it fails to provide adequate protection to downstreamequipment. The purpose of this paper is to present the test procedure used to establish thecapacity of coalescing separators. Comparative sizing is also presented with different types ofcoalescer media. The benefits of primary separation are highlighted.
