摘要

This paper presents the findings that emerged from a series of regional dialogues which are part of a larger study linking a state wide quantitative survey (to establish a baseline) with more in-depth regional dialogues conducted across Queensland, Australia. It found facilitated workshops are an effective way of engaging public participants in discussion about energy technologies and leads to a more positive attitude towards new technologies. The research also confirmed that any discussion about technologies such as carbon capture and storage, needs to be undertaken within the broader context of climate change and the range of options which may form part of a more sustainable future. This ensures the engagement process is seen as genuine and not advocating for any one particular solution, and as a consequence, perceptions of technologies can shift quite dramatically.
