The GAIA mission is a cornerstone of the ESA scientific program. It is aimed at charting the sky of our galaxy with an unrivaled accuracy. This mission presents tremendous challenges at spacecraft desi design level for achieving the required gn performances. The Payload Data Handling System is the part of the payload dedicated to process the raw data issued from the Focal Plane and in charge of controlling it. After a brief description of the mission and of its measurement principle this paper focus on the PDHS from an architectural and functional standpoints and details the main algorithms.
