Innovation Management of Complex Products and Systems in Project-Based Organizations

Due to changing markets and technologies,over the past several years there has been a shift towards Complex Products and Systems (COPS),particularly in advanced industrial nations.To some extent,CoPS form the technology framework of modem economy.But it was until recent years that the importance of CoPS have been recognized and systematically investigated.Although there are many researches on innovation,this paper contends that Project-based forms of enterprise are not adequately addressed in the innovation literature.This paper explores the management of innovation within firms producing COPS,especially the innovation advantage of CoPS in project-based Organizations (PBOs).Based on a review on previous studies of innovation management,this paper analyzes the new development of innovation in CoPS and its role in project-based firms and argues that the nature,composition,and scale of the product have an important bearing on appropriate organizational form.
