An experimental study was conducted to investigate the influence of tension-perpendicular-to-grain stress on shear strength of Southern Pine glulam. The results of the study indicated that the average values of the shear strength decreased with increase in the tension-perpendicular to grain stress. The experimental results are compared with Norris’ interaction equation to determine the validity of the interaction equation in predicting the shear strength as a function of tension-perpendicular-to-grain stress. An approach for predicting the interaction behavior is proposed in this paper.
