In application of enterprise resource planning (ERP) , the accuracy, timeliness and consistency of the business data are the key factors effecting normal operation of ERP system. The policy of vendor managed inventory ( VMI) is applied in the engine work, which has brought changes in the management processes in sales, planning and inventory. This has led to the situation in which application of ERP system couldn' t meet enterprise practical demands. In order to protect the investment of ERP system in the enterprise, and adapt to the changes of outer and inner environment of enterprise, this paper puts forward with the VMI model based on the ERP platform. It has constructed the mixed system architecture of distributed VMI based on client/server model and browse/server model, by using personal digital assistant , barcode technology, wireless network, internet, which has realized the timeliness and the accuracy of data collection in acceptance, delivery, transferring on materials of purchase and sale. This paper has realized the integration of purchase planning, purchase acceptance, product delivery, material demand, sale delivery between ERP and VMI by u-sing interface technology; it has enhanced the operating efficiency of ERP, and realized the information integration of vendors, manufacturers and customers among the supply-chain
