Coal hydrogenation in high pressure was successfully done by chemist in German in 1993, which was basic for the development of coal direct liquefaction. The technology on coal liquefaction has been growing rapidly since 20th century. Until now, there are two ways for coal liquefaction: direct liquefaction and indirect liquefaction. Some countries such as German, American and Japanese did lots of trials on direct liquefaction and some liquefaction process. F-T synthesis technique in SASOL company in south African is widely used. People began to try to study coal hydrogenated in terms of coal petrology in the 1970s. It can confirm that studying coal liquefaction from coal petrology is an effective way. Whatever, owing to the supply of international petroleum unstable and the reserve of relative coal is abundant, the research of coal liquefaction is necessary.
