Simulation of the International Container Cargo Movement in Chinese Ports by Incorporating Chinese Land Transport Network

During the past decades, Asian economies achieved the great development. Due to this reason, Asia countries, especially China, are becoming one of the biggest freight goods generations and consumptions areas. Chinese ports are also becoming the busiest ports in the world such as Shanghai, Shenzhen ports. Against the above background, it is very important to quantitative analysis the movements of imported/exported container cargos of China in detail. In this research, it provides a model system which can illustrate the container cargo movements on the land and maritime transport network in Asia. The freight transport model system consists of shipper behavior sub-model and carrier behavior sub-model, which simulate shipper's choice behavior of land transport mode, land transport route and port, carrier's fleet arrangement behavior, and their interactive behavior. Based on the available real data in 2003, the model is validated. Furthermore, some policies simulations were done in order to examine the change of the container freight cargo transport in China in term of port handled container volume, network link volume, etc.
