Fourier Transform Technique for Predicting Track Critical Velocity of High Speed Railway

The Fourier transform technique is applied to analyze the track dynamics. First, the vibration equations of the track structure are transformed by Fourier transform. The vibration deflections in Fourier transform domain are solved with this transformed equation. Then, the vibration responses of the track structure are obtained by performing inverse fast Fourier transform. This technique is applicable to any complicated structural dynamic problem. Based on single and double layer continuous viscoelastic beam models for the track structure the track critical velocities of high speed railways are calculated with the Fourier transform technique. Influences of different rail pad and fastening rigidity and train speed as well as clay soil and soft soil half-space foundation on the track critical velocity are investigated.
