A series of alumina supported copper-doped nickel catalysts was prepared by coprecipitation from corresponding metalnitrate solutions at a (Ni + Cu)/Al mole ratio of 3 and Cu/Ni mole ratio in the range of 0.03 - 0.4. Subsequent calcination andactivation of precipitates gave rise to the alumina supported copper-doped nickel catalysts for the production of carbonnanofibers or nanotubes from methane. The features of carbon nanofibers or nanotubes formed depend on both the level ofcopper doping and methane conversion temperatures.
