By carbonizing borate bearing chelate resin, carbon micro-spheres containing boron and nitrogen were made. Formedcarbon spheres were 140-340 μm in diameter and hollow. They contained 4.6-4.8 mass% of boron, and the borondistribution in the cross-section of sphere-wall was almost uniform. For the spheres of ca. 200 μm in diameter produced at1000°C, hardiness was 1.24 GPa and elastic modulus including Poisson's ratio 18.9 GPa, in average respectively. Inaddition, the oxidation loss at 500°C in pure oxygen was less than 10 mass% after 2 h. These properties should be improvedmore, but suggest potential usefulness for micro-components.
