It is known that major part of the total friction loss of reciprocating engine comes from frictionbetween the piston assembly and the cylinder. One of possible measure to reduce piston-cylinder frictionmay be to use lower-viscosity oil as lubricating oil. In the present study, thus observation of dynamicvariation of lubricating oil film around piston skirt and ring pack area was made focusing on the effects ofhigher running speed and low-viscosity of lubricant.
