Web-based Interfaces for Natural Language Processing Tools

We have built web interfaces to a numberof Natural Language Processing technologies.These interfaces allow students toexperiment with different inputs and viewcorresponding output and inner workingsof the systems. When possible, the interfacesalso enable the student to modifythe knowledge bases of the systemsand view the resulting change in behavior.Such interfaces are important becausethey allow students without computer sciencebackground to learn by doing. Webinterfaces also sidestep issues of platformdependency in software packages, availablecomputer lab times, etc. We discussour basic approach and lessons learned.
