Examining the Effect of Improved Context Sensitive Morphology onArabic Information Retrieval

This paper explores the effect ofimproved morphological analysis,particularly context sensitive morphology,on monolingual Arabic InformationRetrieval (IR). It also compares the effectof context sensitive morphology to noncontextsensitive morphology. The resultsshow that better coverage and improvedcorrectness have a dramatic effect on IReffectiveness and that context sensitivemorphology further improves retrievaleffectiveness, but the improvement is notstatistically significant. Furthermore, theimprovement obtained by the use ofcontext sensitive morphology over the useof light stemming was not significantlysignificant.
