Two different prototypes of a solar autoclave have been designed, constructed and are being developed. These autoclaves are designed for use in remote health clinics and are inexpensive to build and use no electricity One design uses a directly heated stainless steel chamber, while the other uses a hot oil heat transfer system to carry the heat from a remote solar collector to the autoclave, which can be inside the health clinic building. Working prototypes of both designs have been constructed and are being tested and improved, to meet the exacting standards for certified autoclave operation, but so far they have not reached the temperature and pressure necessary for proper operation.
