"School Power….Naturally" is an innovative $2.1 million program from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) designed to educate New Yorkers abo ut energy, and, in particular, the role solar electric power – photovoltaics, or PV – can play in providing clean, reliable energy for our homes, schools and workplaces. Each of fifty schools, which were competitively selected in 200 2, was awarded a 2-kilowatt (kW) grid-tied PV system, including features to collect and display data that link the hardware to lessons in the classroom. Why not create a solar school program for your own region? Our experiences may help you create a program with staying power long after the funding is gone. A comprehensive, interactive and fun program includes not just PV systems on schools, but also meaningful data monitoring, use of data in curricular materials, teacher training, and community outreach.
