The Influence of Skin Lipid Solubility on Barrier Function

摘要

Solubility of major stratum corneum intercellular lipidswas tested in two cosmetic solvents. Skin permeationof a drug was studied in vitro. It was demonstratedthat the properties of solvent were important to drugpermeation through skin. Cholesterol, palmitic acidand stearic acid were found to be the targeted lipidsof skin penetration enhancers, while the othercomponents of skin barrier - ceramides and most freefatty acids remained intact irrespective of thepenetration enhancers used.
