In the past decades, a large number of cable-stayed bridges have been constructed in various districts in the world, but there is not any method which is safe, efficient and economical to detect cables of cable-stayed bridges. This paper put forward magnetic method, including detecting surface of cable and detecting internal wires, to detect cables and develop two automatic climbing mechanisms to bring magnetic detecting equipment to move along the cable of cable-stayed bridges. One climbing mechanism is electrical all-driven wheels and other climbing mechanism is pneumatic worming.
