This paper studies serial display structure, work principle of chip and format of the configuration register and display register. The interface circuit and display control program of MC14489 in intelligent temperature measurement and control are given out. This paper also illustrates the decode manner of the display data. There are three kinds of decode manner that can be used for different display. Common display technique and method in intelligent instrument are expounded. This paper also describes the characteristics of parallel and serial interface display in the data transmission. The advantage and disadvantage of the static and dynamic display is summarized. The differences between hardware scan and software scan are illustrated. The application of static display chip is expounded. Display circuit of intelligent instrument that is made up of by serial interface can make the system have the small volume, few periphery circuit and low cost. The ratio of performance and price is greatly enhanced. For the intelligent temperature measurement and control, compared with the design of parallel interface display used in the past, the serial interface display that is used now can save the CPU resource. The hardware is simple and has stable performance. The display circuit and software program involved in this paper have been already used in the actual system with high reliability.
