A Method for Measuring the Wear of the Skates

While whetting ice skate automatically, it is necessary to measure the edge wear in the process to determine the stock removal. In this paper a method for measuring the wear of the skate is proposed according to geometry deduction and CCD non-contact measurement technique. By regarding the edge of the skate as an ellipse, the relationship between the wear of the skate and ellipse radii is obtained. In addition, a dualistic non-linear equations is set up utilizes the rotating angle of parallel light and the related measurement length signals from CCD. With the method of HRGA to solve the equations, ellipse model radii of edge can be obtained, and then the edge wear can be calculated. Concrete method is given in this paper.
