Gear oils are lubricants intended for lubrication of gear trains which transmit torque from oneshaft to another thus the primary function will be to minimise wear of gear teeth, removal offrictional heat, increase gear efficiency, minimise noise vibration in adverse conditions likehigh temperature (Radiation Convection) in steel, cement and paper industries. Suchsituation necessitate selection of suitable base stocks based on their visco-elastic behaviourand performance additives to produce lubricating film of high load carrying capacity that cansustain the severe operating conditions. The formulations have also to be designed toachieve improved thermal and oxidation resistance, VI and improved lubricity also apart fromEP performance. Present work comprises of study on performance parameters of gear oilsusing different combination of mineral oil base stocks available in India for boosting uptribological performance parameters by using a new additive to meet the requirements.
