Industrial Gas Turbines allow operation with a wide variety of gaseous and liquid fuels, whilemaintaining very low emissions. Recent discussions include the use of LNG as fuel gas, and operationof gas turbine with varying gas compositions. Lean Premix Combustion systems, widely used foremissions control, require particular considerations regarding the fuel quality. To determine thesuitability for operation with a gas fuel system, various physical parameters of the proposed fuel needto be considered: Heating value, dew point, Wobbe Index and others. Special focus is given to theproblem of determining the dew point of the potential fuel gas at various pressure levels. In particularthe treatment of heavier hydrocarbons, and water is addressed and recommendations about thenecessary data input are made. The impact of fuel properties on emissions, and the proper operation ofthe combustion system are discussed. Suggestions about how to approach fuel suitability questionsduring the project development and construction phase, as well as in operation are made.
