Intercampo oilfield is unconsolidated sand reservoirs that arecharacterized by heavy crude oil and mid-high permeability andhigh saturation. This paper analyses sand production mechanismand applies five prediction models to predict sand production.Sand production condition of wells in Intercampo oilfieldindicates that prediction results are to meet with oilfield actualstatus that sand production to occur seriously and the method ofthe combination modulus is more accurate than other modelsaccording to wells of acoustic logging data.This paper considers the effect of formation damage and wellcompletion parameters of different well completion methods onproductivity forecast of horizontal wells with four series of wellcompletion, including open hole, slotted liner with openhole,open hole gravel packing with wire wrapped/pre-packed screenand cased perforated completion. And, the productivity forecastequations were corrected by authors, the corrected equation isaccuracy compared with the former equations by calculation,and one well completion method that open hole with gravelpacking and pre-packed screen was selected. Sine 1999, theselected well completion method have been applied inIntercampo oilfield of CNPC in Lake of Maracaibo and obtainedhigher productivity than other completion methods of othercompanies. The sand production was effectively controlled andthe oilfield was continuously kept sand free for 5 years in thearea. Finally, a good economic benefit was gained because theworkover and well re-completion in the oilfield for sand controlwas down.
