Near-real-time monitoring of anthropogenic impact on coastal ecosystems

The only satellite data that could be used in near-real-time monitoring is MODIS 250 m resolution band 1 and band 2 imagery. Other sensors do not have high enough revisit times and acceptable spatial resolution. We show that MODIS band 1 data can be used in monitoring of total suspended matter concentrations in coastal waters despite the band was designed for land, cloud and aerosol identifications in spectral region where water leaving signal is supposedly zero.
