DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF HAZARDOUS WASTE INCINERATORFOR THE ANKLESHWAR INDUSTRIAL ESTATE IN INDIA

Weston Solutions Inc. of West Chester, PA, in support of Thermax Ltd. Of Pune, India, has designed and constructed amodern common waste incineration facility for the Ankleshwar Industrial Estate in the Bharuch District in Gujarat, India.Ankleshwar is a major chemical industrial zone in Asia with a total of more than 1,000 industries-half of whichmanufacture a wide variety of chemicals for both industrial and consumer use. This paper describes the overall incineratorsystem design and operational considerations associated with the installation of one of the first commercial hazardous wasteincineration facilities in a major industrial estate in India, discusses process design issues that were considered for thematerial delivery system for the multiple types of wastes to be treated in the facility, presents some of the unique aspects ofthe incineration system as it relates to India, and reviews emissions performance requirements in view of current UnitedStates and European Union standards.
