CHARACTERISTICS OF CHLORINE IN MSW AND RDF – SPECIES, SAMPLINGAND ANALYTICAL METHODS

The chlorine content of municipal solid waste (MSW) and refuse derived fuel (RDF) plays animportant role for incineration processes. In order to prevent operational problems qualityassured analytical methods for the determination of the chlorine concentration are necessary.In this paper several methods commonly used for analysis of chlorine are described andevaluated using samples of paper and cardboard, plastic waste and household kitchen waste.The suitability of each method will be discussed on the basis of feasibility, statistical evalua-tion,and accuracy. These data provide the possibility to identify the main chlorine sourcesand their species in household waste.
