A STUDY ON THE TYPE AND CHARACTERISTICS OF VOCS EMISSION FROM PLANTED SPACE

Plants contain an ingredient that mainly consists ofterpene, one of the volatile organic chemicals, which is also known as α- and β-pinene, myrcene, β-thujene, bomyl acetate. This substance is effective in anti-bacterial and odor removal. For the human body, in particular, it has the effect of reducing cortisol concentration, a hormone indicating the level of stress, extending sleeping hours, and controlling blood pressure. By analyzing the gas creation property in an indoor space where the plantation rate is relatively high, a basic study on the use of indoor greenhouse air for the improvement of polluted indoor air quality was conducted. This experiment was conducted by selecting six sites(3 greenhouse and 3 outdoor sites) in Seoul that are relatively similar in terms of their sizes and planted species. Then, gas was collected in the greenhouses and the outdoor sites to analyze volatile organic chemicals with GC-MS.
