We used the inspection of building techniques, microbiological sampling, questionnaires among users of three buildings and analyses of microbe-specific IgG-antibodies from serum samples and evaluated the similarity of information obtained by them. Indicator microbes were detected in all the buildings either in air, surface or material samples. Workers in two of the buildings complained more of indoor air quality (20-60 % depending on the factor and the building) and reported more work-related symptoms (5-35 % depending on the symptom and the building) than did the workers in one of the buildings. Aspergillus versicolor (the prevalence varied by the building from 86 % to 100 %) and Streptomyces albus (53-67 %) antibodies were common. The methods used in these cases describe different features of the building and its users. Perceived air quality is affected by not only moisture damages but also cleanness and the purpose of use of the building.
