摘要

The paper primarily discusses site investigations and selected analytical aspects of a proposed remedial scheme aimed at restoring load distribution to a complex bridge superstructure. The superstructure comprising of two historically distinct bridge decks had failed an earlier assessment to current standards using conventional analytical means. The proposed remedial scheme involved the installation of an array of flat jacks seated at predetermined locations at the interface of the two decks and inflated to pre-calculated loads to provide sharing of loads between the two decks. Key stages in the development of the 3D Finite Element models are discussed. It is then discussed how the basic models were up-graded to study various load conditions. In the end it is briefly described how, by undertaking the analytical study, it was shown that the two deck systems could be made to achieve a satisfactory level of load sharing to carry loading to current standards.
