A novel copper-substituted aluminophosphate (CuIST-2) has been synthesized using methylamine as a templating agent. X-Ray diffraction studies provide evidence for an AEN topology similar to the parent Cu-free IST-2. An increase of the cell parameters suggested an isomorphous substitution of framework aluminium by copper. Combined cyclic voltammetry, H2-TPR, FTIR and cw EPR provide independent proof for an unusual framework position of Cu(Ⅱ) ions in the as-synthesized phase and the further stabilization of both framework Cu(Ⅱ) and Cu(Ⅰ) in the air-calcined material.
