Investigation of Crop Growth Condition withGround-based Remote Sensing in Green House

Cucumber was selected as experimental crop in greenhouse. The seedlings weregrown in compound substrate composed of vermiculite and straw charcoal. In order to makenutrient stress to cucumber, five kinds of compound substrates were prepared with mixingvermiculite and straw charcoal in the ratios of 10:0, 8:2, 6:4, 4:6, and 2:8, respectively. Twentyseedlings were planted in each kind of substrate, and total 100 seedlings were planted for thetesting. Thirteen measurements were conducted in testing period continued from May to July in2003. A spectroradiometer (ASD FieldSpec, 325-1075 nm measurable range with 1 nmresolution) was used to acquire spectral reflectance of a plant in growing status. By analyzingthe relation between spectral reflectance of cucumber plants and growth condition of the crop,the follows were concluded. 1) Spectral reflectance can be used to determine crop growthcondition in greenhouse; 2) The reflectance map at 550 nm is an available tool for theinvestigation of crop growth condition; 3) It is necessary to make crop growth conditiondigitization so that the quantitative analysis of the relation between the condition and cropspectral reflectance can be performed.
