Reverse auctions, often called e-auctions, are revolutionizing procurement practices. E-auctionenables any supplier worldwide with Internet-access the potential to participate in onlineauctions held by companies seeking goods and services. Suppliers compete for bids online, andprices fall until they reach the buyer's level of acceptance. This paper presents an overview of eauction,describes types and levels of services available, discusses the pros and cons of e-auctionfor buyers and sellers, describes global business e-auction implementations, and discussesaspects of e-auction that need further research.
