The possibility of combining the most advantageous properties of the popular approaches to risk analysis tocreate a new, user-friendly and well-founded approach is examined. This so-called Best Practice (BP) Riskapproach is based on a variation of the risk priority number (RPN) concept, in which RPN tables are defined bysound engineering rules in order to guarantee certain vital properties. A particular example of this approach froma railroad application is discussed.
