This paper describes the estimation of the dynamic properties of a test floor for the purpose of tuning passive and semi-active pendulum tuned mass dampers (PTMDs), using a modal analysis technique. The main parameters to be estimated were the effective floor mass and floor damping ratio. Analytical response of the floor was computed and compared with the measured results for the cases of bare floor, with passive PTMD, and with semi-active PTMD. From the comparison of results it was found that the dynamic parameters of the floor could have been adequately estimated by considering it as a simply-supported beam and using a closed form analytical solution.
