摘要

In order to expedite initiation of the feasibility study (FS), surface sediment data collected at the Portland Harbor site were evaluated using spatial analysis tools to identify initial areas of potential concern (AOPCs). Preliminary remediation goals (PRGs) were developed for site contaminants based on the results of the preliminary human health and ecological risk assessments. Data was extracted from the Query Manager data base and uploaded into a GIS tool developed specifically for the Portland Harbor site. PRGs were mapped using GIS based data interpolation tools to identify initial AOPCs. AOPCs were identified based on four primary lines of evidence: Human consumption of smallmouth bass (PCBs), background (PCBs), human health direct contact (PAHs) and risks to the benthic community (sediment toxicity). AOPCs are expected to serve as the basis for developing, screening and evaluating remedial action alternatives in the draft FS.
