This paper outlines the environmental and social management framework for the construction of the Baku-Tiblisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline. The paper concentrates on the period from tendering of construction contracts through to the beginning of construction. There is particular focus on the lessons learned to date and useful insights are provided which will be of benefit to future projects.
