Advances in API/ISO Oil Mud Chemical Analysis Field Procedures

Oil-based and synthetic-based drilling fluids are important tothe industry because they provide excellent performance underthe most difficult drilling conditions. To maintain the integrityof these systems, engineers depend upon field test procedurescontained within API RP 13B-21 (ISO/FDIS 10414-22). AnAPI Work Group has recently improved these procedures byenhancing reproducibility and substantially reducing standarddeviation. This paper will describe the methods and data usedto achieve these significant gains.
