The revival and improvement of Alkaline Fuel Cells with circulating KOH was started 1997 at the TU-Graz in cooperation with Apollo Energy Systems, Inc (AES). Thin carbon electrodes with new improvementscan now deliver up to 400 mA/cm~2 on Air. After thisrevival of the alkaline fuel cell technology it became necessary to answer questions about the advantages, life times (aging mechanisms) cost of accessories and estimates about competitive pricing with other Fuel Cell System which use larger amounts of noble metal catalysts. The development of low cost Ammonia Crackers followed The problems with reformed fuel gases from fossil sources (CO_2 content) and other available hydrogen carriers in general (e.g. hydrides) were solved with low-cost efficient ammonia crackers after it became obvious that Ammonia which can also be produced from renewable sources is best suited as a worldwide hydrogen source.
